CFL romp to victory!

Cheshire came flying out of the blocks, pinning the home side back in their own half for the first ten minutes, but West Cheshire stood firm.

As the half wore on, West Cheshire began to take a hold, dominating the ball for large periods, without creating any real chances of note. A few long range pot shots went begging for the home side and, when making inroads down the Cheshire right side, West Cheshire allowed their wingers good work to go begging when his service was good.

The turning point in the game was on 39 minutes, as the impressive young debutant, Josh Hayes, started a flowing move, from left to right, which found Jordan Rigby. The wide player beat his man and his fizzing cross met the head of the on rushing Phil Yuille, who's header was too central, and gathered by the home 'keeper.

Rigby then found Mannion, who's long range strike scuffed wide.

Shortly before half time, Rick Tindall managed to fashion a chance from nothing, hooking the ball over the defender, but his left footed twenty yard strike was met well by the home keeper.

Half time 0-0

Cheshire came out fast again in the second half. West Cheshire had largely dominated the midfield up to this point, but the tide was turning.

Mcgregor, on his debut, was tearing through the West Cheshire defence. The front three combining well time and again, and supported well through Yuille. It was Yuille determination which led to the opening goal. The number 10 won the ball well on 20 yards and Tindall found a gap, carried the ball and side footed through the goalkeepers legs to give Cheshire a 1-0 lead.

It was Tindall again, threatening, 4 minutes later. A superb sweeping pass from Mcgregor found the forward, and when well placed, Tindall was upended. However, he skied the resulting penalty.
Mannion then brilliantly worked space to find Josh Hayes in the middle. His pass allowed Mcgregor to attack the full back, and yet again, the full back gave a foul away. This time Jordan Rigby stepped up, smashing into the top corner to make it 2-0.

West Cheshire again began to control the ball, but were met by a sturdy defence, superbly marshalled by the strong and resolute partnership of Rand and Coleman.
Cheshire stood firm and saw the game through to regain the Cooper Smith Cup.

"We had a few lads pull out late on, which makes the job harder, along with a journey made more difficult by the bad traffic. That said, the lads were completely unfazed. That's the most resolute I've seen us. West Cheshire are a very strong side and we limited them to very few real chances. I'm really happy about that.

We had a few debutants tonight too and all were superb. If we take this kind of performance into the Jeff Walton cup games we'll give ourselves a really good chance of more trophies and a good run on the national cup"
