Premier Division

Whaley Bridge took no prisoners as they stormed to a 7-2 win at home against Denton Town, while Gamesley finished 4-2 winners away at Rudheath Social. Thomas Burns hit home twice, with Josh Stevenson and Andy Heath also making their mark for Gamesley. Brothers Shaun and Paul Alcock scored for Rudheath.

Knutsford went three points clear at the top of the table after beating Poynton 4-2. Scott Beattie, Liam Myers, Tom Rutter and Dave Owens were all on form for Knutsford.

A brace from Stuart Maylett saw Styal get their first win of the season as they beat Crewe 2-1 despite a first half goal from Nathan Southern.

Two goals for Mike Thomas were not enough for Linotype CHN as they lost 5-2 at home to Sandbach United. Aiden Haughton (2) Bradley Cooper, Pacome Jeremy and Leeroy Chakanyuke all scored in a successful day for the Cheshire side.

Garswood United secured their second win of the season after beating newly promoted Malpas 4-0 away. Both teams started at a good pace on a bright day as they both looked to find the weakness in their opposition. Malpas were unlucky when a Lee Parry header hit the cross bar and minutes later Stuart Dicken hit the post with a header.

At the other end Conner Tinsley pulled off two quality saves to keep the sides level going into the break. Malpas failed to get going in the second half and found themselves a goal behind after fifty two minutes, which was followed up ten minutes later with a second. The game could have been all over on sixty six minutes when a penalty was saved low down by Malpas keeper Conner Tinsley. Two more goals in the seventy fifth and eighty fifth saw Garswood secure the points.

League One

Wythenshawe Town continued their unbeaten run by ending Middlewich Town's with a 4-0 win at home. For the first 30 minutes the game was evenly contested with both sides working very hard in the heat at pressing and not allowing too much time on the ball. James Smith went close for Middlewich early on when he evaded the offside trap and forced Jacob Luty into a save. Callum Priestley also managed to roll a defender in the box and get a shot off but unfortunately couldn't hit the target. At the other end Wythenshawe also went close but also were unable to make it count.

Wythenshawe took the lead on 32 minutes. Remy Williams was afforded too much space down the right hand side and played a precision pass to the edge of the box towards James Green, who hit a terrific volley across Charles Masters in goal to the far corner for 1-0. Middlewich fell further behind just before the break when they failed to defend a corner. The ball was flicked on at the front post straight in to the path of oncoming Jamie Dickenson who made no mistake from a yard out.

At the other end Jacob Luty was forced into tipping a James Smith curled effort round the post after a mazy run and beating a couple of defenders.

Middlewich found it difficult to get going in the second half as Wythenshawe began to use the ball well and take a grip of the game which resulted in a few half chances that were either off target or saved by Masters. Middlewich’s best chance of getting back in the game came on 64 minutes when a corner to the back post was headed wide by Priestley. Any chance of Middlewich getting back in the game disappeared on 70 minutes when Chris Yearsley played the ball back to Masters, who misjudged the bounce, allowing Louis Brown a tap in for 3-0.

With nine minutes remaining, Wythenshawe scored their final goal when a Colin Murray cross to the edge of the box was smashed home by James Green for his second of the game.

Pilkington made it three in three as goals from Graham Boylan (2) Matty Taylor and Aaron Bailey saw them finish 4-2 winners over Tarporley Victoria at Ruskin Drive. Joe Marley and Mark Pearson hit home for the away side.

Jimi Folagbade and Ioannis Stouppis both scored twice and added to a goal from Dave Brown to see Altrincham Reserves beat Grappenhall Sports 5-0 away, while Egerton and Golborne Sports shared the points in a 2-2 draw.

Maine Road Reserves proved to be unstoppable as they achieved a league record, beating Penlake 16-4 at Brantingham Road. The home side had the best of the opening chances as Adam Savill found Connor Kilcullen on a good run down the left wing. His cross was well delivered and found head of Mike Carcamo and his attempt rattled the cross bar.

Maine Road won the ball back from the goal kick and Owen found himself in space in front of goal but his shot was well saved. The possession soon produced results as Jack Shiels headed towards Savill who turned and put a brilliant pass through for Tommy Johnson to finish well for 1-0.

The home side made it 2-0 after 12 minutes when Joel Senior took a quick throw to Obiedalah Elghreaw who took one touch before sending a tremendous strike crashing into the far corner from 35 yards. Two minutes later, Johnson squared the ball to Carcamo who rode a strong challenge to come away with the ball, his shot across goal drew an excellent diving save from the keeper and produced a Maine Road corner. The corner fell nicely for Shiels at the far post who headed back across goal to Savill but his shot went wide.

With 17 minutes on the clock, Penlake had their first attack shooting from range and forcing Caine Merrick into an excellent diving save. Alex Griesdale was on hand to collect the rebound and poke it home for 2-1.

Within a minute Maine Road restored their two goal lead as Johnson’s free kick was superbly met with a powerful header from Shiels, giving the Penlake keeper no chance. JACK SHIELS giving the keeper no chance.

Penlake’s afternoon got worse on the half hour mark when their centre half intercepted a ball but awkwardly smashed it into the roof of his own net for 4-1. Three minutes later and Owen calmly shot inside the near post to put Maine Road 5-1 in front.
Penlake had no time to recover as Maine Road launched attack after attack. Savill turned his defender and split the centre halves before releasing the ball to meet the run of Patrick Walsh who ably danced around the keeper and slotted home for 6-1

Despite it not being Penlake’s day, they weren’t giving up and got some reward on 38mins as poor defending allows the number 8 to put a ball in behind the defence and Griesdale obliged by chipping the out coming Merrick to make it 6-2.

Maine Road were far from done and a quick one two between Savill and Owen saw Savill take a touch before firing a shot from 30 yards into the bottom corner. He added his second shortly before the half time whistle as he beat the offside trap and calmly shot past the Penlake keeper, bringing the score to 8-2.

On the brink of half time a brilliant free kick saw Penlake hit home again to reduce the deficit to 8-3.

Maine Road were quick out of the blocks and Johnson’s well delivered corner fell to Shiels who shot into the near corner for 9-3 and in the 52nd minute Connor Kilcullen threaded a nice pass to Savill who showed good strength and pace to hold off the defender and finish well to complete an early hat trick.
In the 68th minute, Savill sent another neat pass in behind Johnson who finished well for 11-3 but Penlake attacked from kick off and made it 11-4 as Maine Road were unable to clear the danger.
The home side reacted again and Sam Owen did well to beat his defender to add another to the score sheet for the day. This was followed up with a quick free kick as Giles Collier squared the ball to Savill who increased his tally to four.

Savill slotted past the keeper again in the 84th minute for his fifth, bringing the score to 14-4, before completing his double hat trick a minute later. The last effort saw Rio Wilson-Heyes release Johnson out wide and a perfect cross is met on the run and excellently volleyed home by Sam Owen to complete the scoring at 16-4.

League Two

Lostock Gralam came from behind twice to beat Unicorn Athletic 6-4 at home. Lee Hendley headed home from Obi Beevers cross to open the scoring and their lead was doubled when Beevers was brought down in the box and Matt Aikenhead scored the resulting penalty. Billy Whitehouse pulled one back for Lostock, before Josh Clarke struck well to make it 2-2.

After all his hard work, Beevers made it count as he put Unicorn 3-2 up at the break and James Phillip added a fourth to increase the away side’s lead.

Early in the second half, Whitehouse was fouled in the area and Will Reid sent the keeper the wrong way to reduce the deficit for Lostock, before Josh Perry tapped home after good work from Robbie Jones to put the home side back on level terms. Carl Harvey made it 5-4 with twenty minutes on the clock, before Alex Russell hit home in the dying stages to secure three points for the Grey Lambs.

FC St Helens got their first points of the season as they finished 2-0 winners at home against West Didsbury & Chorlton Reserves as Callum Laird and Morgan Deardon struck gold.

Newcomers Halebank continue to impress as beat Moore United 6-2 away. Halebank had the first chance of the game in the 6th minute when they took the ball off Howard in the Moore defence and played it into Connor Speed who was through on goal. The shot was well saved by the foot of Balmer in the Moore goal and went out for a corner.

Moore’s chance came soon after when the ball was played out from the back, Chaddock flicked it on to Howard who moved the ball into the run of Joe Holt. Holt took two touches and skipped through the defence but his low shot was cleared well by the Halebank keeper.

Moore took the lead on the half hour mark after a good link up between Boden and Chaddock. The latter crossed the ball from the right wing for Holt to head home at the far post. Halebank drew level two minutes later when a free kick was missed by Balmer and headed in at the back post by Lee Marshall for 1-1.

Speed made it 2-1 to Halebank when he converted a penalty and Kev Dunning doubled their lead with a good finish shortly before the break.

Halebank started the second half with the same determination and Speed scored twice in ten minutes to complete his hat trick and put the away side 5-1 up. Despite good chances for Chaddock and Holt, Moore continued to trail but their blushes were saved when a second Halebank penalty rattled the crossbar.

At the other end, Danny Dunne fed the ball into Joe Holt who fired a shot into the bottom corner to make it 5-2 but Halebank burst forward from the restart and Ryan Swift scored their sixth of the game in the last minute.

AFC Macclesfield made it three wins on the bounce as they beat Mersey Valley in a close encounter at Banky Lane. Macclesfield dominated the first 15 minutes but were unable to make the possession count.
20 minutes were on the clock when Mersey Valley hit with a quick counter attack and left Macclesfield back-pedalling, a lack of communication resulted in Macclesfield keeper Jordan Hitchin, coming off his line and bringing down the striker. Ollie Riley scored from the spot to give Mersey Valley a 1-0 lead.
Within 5 minutes, Macclesfield were back on level terms. A 30 yard strike from Sam Williamson resulted in a great save from Matthew Nealan, the Mersey Valley keeper but Greg Mathers was on hand to follow up the rebound.
Macclesfield continued to make chances with Greg Mathers being denied a rare headed goal by a superb point blank save by the Mersey Valley keeper.
Early in the second half, Mathers got the ball on the left, touched it past Mersey Valley's right back and thumped the ball with his weaker right foot into the top corner and made it 2-1 to Macclesfield.
With 20 minutes to go, Mersey Valley got behind in Macclesfield’s right back, Chris Megarrell who was forced to make a tackle inside the box bringing down the attacker. Aaron Minshall converted the penalty and made it 2-2.
Mersey Valley gained momentum and started to put pressure on Macclesfield’s back four but a deliberate hand ball saw the home side reduced to ten men as the player had already been cautioned. With the extra man, Macclesfield began to dominate once again and with 12 minutes to go, the winner came. A stunning team goal resulted in Jack Banister finding Jonny Cavanagh in the box to slot the ball in the bottom corner for 3-2.
