Congy and Windle go top and Winnington win, naturally.

Rainbow laces all around the League

While the Inter-League team were getting the business done in the FA Inter-League Cup there was plenty of domestic action going on around Cheshire.

Congleton moved back to the top of the Premier Division with a 3-2 win over bottom club Broadheath Central.

They took a two-goal lead into the break courtesy of strikes from Oliver Griffiths and Stan Tatters but they were made to work for the three points in the second half after goals from James Callwood and Gareth Steel gave Broadheath hope.

In the end Griffiths second, just before the hour mark, was the difference.

Congleton move a point clear at the top of the league, leap-frogging Crewe who did not play this weekend.

Whaley Bridge continued to show their resilience with a battling 1-0 win away at Greenalls Padgate. Whaley went into the game without a recognised goalkeeper in the squad which meant full-back James Gemmell was forced to don the gloves.

He managed to keep a clean sheet while Bill Sutton grabbed his ninth of the season to wrap up the point.

There was good news for Lostock Gralam as they ran out 2-1 winners of Daten having lost their previous two league outings, conceding eight goals in the process.

Myles Wady and Jack Wooley scored for the visitors while Joe Barker netted for the hosts.

Middlewich continued their impressive run of form which has seen them win five of their last six outings, scoring 18 goals.

They made that 23 in seven with a thumping 5-1 demolition of struggling Egerton. Steven Hughes grabbed a hat-trick to take his tally to 14 for the season while Chris Lunn and Jack Baker pitched in with one each.

In League One Windle moved back to the top after they edged out Cuddington by the odd goal in five; Dean Curtis, Danny Large and Stephen Taylor on the scoresheet.

Winstanley Warriors are hot on their heels though; they didn’t play and now have three games in hand over Windle who have a precarious two-point lead.

Vulcan are one point further back and they managed to keep pace with the top two after a 3-2 win on their travels.

Cheadle Heath Nomads, who conceded seven against Garswood last weekend, were in better fettle this time out as they pushed Vulcan all the way. Ultimately goals from Josh Carmody, Jack Hatton and Scott Walker were enough for all three points.

On a good day for the visitors there was also an away success for Maine Road, who won 2-0 at Malpas thanks to goals from Zach Curtis and Jim Imrich, and Cheadle Town Reserves who beat Moore United 2-1 courtesy of Marcello Arhin and Dan Gorman.

Styal were the only side to avoid the ignominy of a home defeat when they held Ashton Athletic Reserves to a draw in an eight-goal epic.

In League Two Golborne earned a surprise point against high-flying Sandbach thanks to goals from Chris Gladwin and Michael Koppel.

Parklands remain the team to watch after the continued their 100% start to the season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Knowsley South; Mike Corrigan’s 28th minute strike the difference.

Winnington continue to live up to their name as they stretched their lead at the top to eight points after a 4-1 win over Holmes Chapel Hurricanes. A Craig Humphries double plus goals from Ben Lambert and Scott Ravenscroft secured victory at Moss Farm.

In Reserve Division One Billinge Res got their first three-point haul of the season beating Styal Res 5-3.

Robert Lamont netted twice in addition to efforts from Richard Allen, Ryan Sephton and substitute Stephen Wilson.

FC St Helens Res moved top of the League after they travelled to Garswood and won 2-0. They now have nine points while Eagle, in second, are on the same number of points and have a game in hand.

There were also only two league games in Reserve Division Two this weekend. Daten Development’s topsy-turvy start to the season continues after they won 2-1 against Moore United Reserves. The winner came from substitute Matthew Moore who added to Reece Carling’s earlier strike.

In the afternoon’s other game Winstanley Reserves won 2-0 at home to Golborne Reserves thanks to a double from Joe McDonagh.

Daten and Winstanley are part of a pack of four teams at the top all on six points but Lostock Gralam, top with a 100% record, have a game in hand over the chasing pack.
