Congleton and Styal continue to set the early pace as Egerton’s wait for a point goes on

Game Day 5 roundup

Congleton and Styal’s imperious starts to the season continued on Tuesday night as they both won at home while Egerton’s troubles continued as they lost their fifth straight match.
In their fifth game of the season Congleton hosted a Whaley Bridge side with only one appearance to their name thus far, a draw against Poynton a week ago.
The game was tight and one that was decided by an early Aaron Cook goal.
Cook struck in the 6th minute and his side held on for the next 84 plus stoppages to claim all three points.
Whaley’s attempts to get back in the game were dealt a blow after half an hour when last season’s top scorer Sam Leadbitter was forced off with a nasty looking ankle injury. Manager Jamie Kay will be hoping it isn’t too serious as his side prepare to face Billinge on Saturday.
Elsewhere in the Premier Division Eagle remain second in the table after a narrow 2-1 victory over Daten who were unfortunate not to take anything from the game.
The sides lead 1-1 going into the break after Daten took the lead through Chris Lawlor after a quarter of an hour. The lead was short lived, though, James Waldron equalising after twenty minutes.
The score stayed like that until the 89th minute when Lewis McEvatt snatched the points for the away side.
Despite the disappointment of defeat there are definite signs of improvement for Daten in their first season back in the top flight. However, a tough test awaits them on Saturday when they travel to Crewe who scored nine last time out.
Blacon Youth Club are quietly going about their work and maintained their own perfect start to the season with their third successive win.
Their 3-0 success over Middlewich came courtesy of goals from Lewis Coppack (2) and Luke Jones and they will be expecting to continue their winning run when they face bottom of the table Egerton on Saturday.
St Helens earned their second win in as many games with a 4-1 win at Greenalls Padgate which sees them climb to seventh in the league.
A brace from Jack Ball plus efforts from Lewis Greenway and Paul Sweeney secured the points for the visitors as the hosts fell to their second successive defeat.
Billinge completed an early season double over Egerton. In the reverse fixture just ten days ago the Storks ran out 3-0 winners and it was the same story on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Nial Dawson, Elliot Bradshaw and an own goal.
In the night’s other game Altrincham travelled to Manchester Road and put six past Knutsford whose inconsistent start to the season continues.
The emphatic score line doesn’t paint the whole picture, though. Altrincham led 2-0 going into the break through Rhian Davis and Tom Peers but Knutsford got themselves back in the game just after half-time with a goal from Rob Spilsbury.
The scores remained the same until the 90th minute when Alty sealed the three points thanks to a Lewis Walters goal.
Three further goals in stoppage time – Walters completing his hat-trick before Peers got his second - put the gloss on things for the visitors as the hosts’ heads dropped.
There were two Premier Division games on Wednesday. Firstly at Flixton where Broadheath Central fell to their second straight defeat losing 2-0 to Lostock Gralam.
The Grey Lambs now sit in sixth thanks to a goal in each half from Sean Tierney and Jordan Johnson.
In the night’s other game there was no hangover for Crewe after their 9-1 victory on Saturday. They beat Poynton 4-0 at Cumberland thanks to another two goals from the prolific Nathan Southern, his seventh and eighth of the season, and a goal apiece from Matt Birchall and Luke Whalley sealing the win.
Styal won again to make it 12 points from 12 on a night of braces in League One. The leaders beat Cheadle Heath Nomads 3-1 in their first home game of the season thanks to two goals from Clevon Beadle and a third from Jardel Depeiaza.
Styal’s nearest challengers are Winstanely Warriors who sit two points behind having played a game more.
They remain within shooting distance of the leaders thanks to an Elliot Morris double which earned Warriors a 2-1 at home ton Ashton Athletic reserves.
Vulcan sit unbeaten in third thanks to Scott Walker’s brace in a 2-1 win over Moore United who remain winless this season.
Cheadle Town picked up their first point of the season at home to Denton to draw level with Moore on points at the foot of the table. Tokia Russell grabbed with, you guessed it, a brace. They remain bottom going into Saturday’s visit of Cuddington.
Maine Road reserves recorded their first win of the season on Monday night when they narrowly beat Cuddington thanks to two goals from Joseph Simms while the braces continued the following night; Robert Braithwaite’s helping Orford to a 3-2 win over Ford Motors.
In the only Wednesday night fixture Garswood United reserves and Windle Labour club shared five goals with the home side’s three enough to earn them the same number of points.
Bell-Soppelsa scored his third in as many games while Danny Clarke added to the previous night’s brace bonanza with one of his own.
