Football is back with a bang!

Premier Division

Whaley Bridge remain top of the league as they beat Congleton Vale by one goal to nil. The home side become the first Premier Division side to reach 50 points, a single goal from Tom Streets was enough to give Bridge all three points. Could this mean that they are within touching distance of the title?

Knutsford defeated fellow title challengers, Poynton, at Manchester Road as they won 2-1. The home side took all three points through club top scorer, Liam Crellin-Myers and Declan Butler. Andrew Hurst’s goal for the visitors just wasn’t enough to take away a point.

Altrincham Reserves leapfrog Linotype Cheadle with their comprehensive victory over Rylands this weekend. The win at Egerton Youth Club moves Alty to fourth on 40 points, a point ahead of Nomads. Nomads drew 1-1 with Malpas, Askley Harrison’s solitary goal wasn’t enough to give them the victory as they couldn’t keep their lead.

Division One

Result of the day in Division One saw strugglers, Grappenhall Sports, thrash a strong FC St Helens side by five goals to one. The Warrington locals were five up before the visitors pulled back a consolation goal via Ste Ashton.

Bottom side, Cheadle Town Reserves, shocked Golborne Sports by putting eight goals past them at Park Road. An exceptional attacking performance from Golborne’s Keiron Eaves (who picked up a hat-trick) was completely wiped out by a superb showing from the Stockport locals. A Dean Nolan hat-trick and single goals from Michael Price, Jack Ward, Jake Ambrose, Macauley Dewar and Albert Keeling gave Cheadle the victory.

Daten and Lostock Gralam played out a nine goal thriller as the Grey Lambs came away with the victory. Two braces, courtesy of Charlie Fisher and Dom Johnson, and a goal from Danny Martin gave the away side the win at Culceth Sports Club.

Billinge move up to second with their 5-2 victory over Pilkington, who were in second at the start of play. The win in Lancashire moves Billinge onto 51 points, just one behind league leaders, Warrington Town Reserves.

AFC Macclesfield continued to close the gap on the top three as they took on Egerton at Stockport Sports Village. A 3-1 victory for the home side came through goals from Jack Banister and Mathew Williams (2). West Didsbury and Chorlton Reserves beat Halebank by the same scoreline at the Recreation Ground in South Manchester to move up to sixth in the league.

Division Two

Windle Labour remain top following their 3-2 win in Northwich away at Cuddington. They sit on 33 points, three ahead of Broadheath Central. Broadheath won away at Orford by five goals to two. Orford took the lead early on, as Broadheath equalised shortly after. Orford retook the lead but again, it was shortlived. From there, Central took the game and scored three more, giving them all three points.

Deva Christleton fell victim to a strong Moore United side who came away with all three points in Chester. The visitors’ goals coming through Sam Chaddock, Joe Holt & Sean Willott.

In another high scoring affair, Maine Road Reserves defeated Ford Motors in Chorlton, Manchester. The home side came out the better of the sides in a seven goal thriller – their goals coming from Sam Barnett, Jack Blundell, Tom Keyworth and Robert Wallis.

The final game of the weekend in Division Two saw Unicorn Athletic and Winstanley Warriors draw 3-3 in Flixton.

Reserves Division One

Garswood United defeated Daten to move to within a point of second-placed Eagle Sports. Goals from Mustapha Bouamra, Jack Hodgkiss and Robert Stewart weren’t enough for the Atoms to take away anything from the game as Daniel Bell, Adam Davies, Jon Keddie and Jonathon Parkinson gave United the win.

Linotype Cheadle now top the league as they won 4-2 at home to Greenalls Padgate St Oswalds thanks to a Troy Hayden brace and single goals from Michael Wild and Ben Reeves.

Poynton beat Rylands to overtake their opponents and move into sixth whilst Knutsford ‘A’ remain in fifth after beating Styal by three goals to one in Wilmslow.

Reserves Division Two

There were two Reserves Division Two games this weekend, the first saw FC St Helens fall victim to a strong Mersey Valley side. The Ashton-on-Mersey locals coming away with a 4-2 victory. Goals from James Liversedge, Nyall Garner and Finley Carroll (2) gave Valley the win.

Golborne Sports didn’t follow their first team’s result this week as they thrashed bottom side, Malpas, 7-2 thanks to goals from Shannon (2), Threadgill, M. Woods (2), Kidman and Southworth.
