Thursday evening saw the cold chill sweep across Cheshire as the snow, wind and rain gave pitches across the county a really tough time. By Friday evening, the postponements were beginning to become apparent as the weather was continuing to affect fixtures.

By the time 2pm on Saturday came along, there were just ten fixtures going ahead.
In the Premier Division, there were three games. Leaders, Whaley Bridge, took on Knutsford at Manchester Road in this week’s ‘CFL - Matchday Experience’ featured game.

Fourth took on first as Knutsford were looking to edge closer to Bridge at the top. James Pickford, David Owens, Sean Lynch, Andrew Keogh and Liam Crellin-Myers all scored for Knutsford, the latter picking up a brace, in the game. Bridge were left stunned after seeing six goals put past them without being able to pull back a consolation. Knutsford now sit in second place, level on points with Wythenshawe and six behind Whaley at the top.

Kristian Bell put on a performance that even world class strikers would be proud of as he picked up five goals in Rylands’ 10-0 victory over Styal. The Wilmslow natives were humbled at the hands of Rylands thanks to the aforementioned Bell, a Michael Sullivan hat-trick and one goal from both James Daniels and Michael Southern.

Rudheath Social and Malpas played out a back and forth game that saw Rudheath come out on top. It finished 2-3 to Social who were two up within the first seven minutes. Malpas pulled level but a penalty for Rudheath gave the visitors the lead and the final result.

Pilkington move within three points of Division One leaders, Warrington Town Reserves, with their 4-2 win against Egerton at Ruskin Drive. The home side become only the second team to reach 40 points in Division One this season, a statistic that took them only 20 games to reach (an average of 2 points per game).
Warrington Town’s and West Didsbury & Chorlton’s reserve side played each other in what became a stalemate. The game at Cantilever Park finished 1-1, meaning that it gives the title challengers a chance to catch up to the Yellows.

Daten beat Tarporley Victoria to move level on points with Middlewich in mid-table. The home side won 3-1 through goals from substitutes, James Sigsworth and Leon Goulden (2). Tarporley sit in 14th.

Cheadle Town Reserves couldn’t match their first team’s 5-2 victory at home in the NWCFL this weekend as they were embarrassed away at Golborne Sports. Four goals from Scott Walker and two from Josh Taffe gave Sports the win.

Bottom side, Grappenhall Sports held Middlewich Town to a 1-1 draw to move closer to Cheadle above them. Paul Hulmes got Grappenhall’s only goal at Seddon Street in Middlewich as they move within a point of the rest of the table.

Maine Road Reserves caused an upset as they beat Division Two leaders, Deva Christleton. Tom Keyworth got the first goal of the game as he took the ball through the defence and put it past the ‘keeper from a tight angle to give Maine Road the lead. After 40 minutes, the lead doubled as Maine Road reap the rewards for dominating the early portions of the game, Aeron Woodman got in behind the defence and did well to hold off the defender and finish well across the ‘keeper and into the net. Deva pulled one back through a lobbed effort from distance that went over the head of Jake Haworth in the Maine Road goal.

In Reserve Division Two, Wythenshawe Town’s Development Squad beat Moore United Reserves by ten goals to nil at Ericstan Park to move up to fourth. The Manchester locals will be looking to chase down the leaders and emulate the form of their Cheshire Football League Premier Division counterparts.
