Whaley hit Styal for six!

Premier Division

Congleton Vale finished their first season in the Prem on a high as they secured maximum points from both games this week.
Tuesday saw them beat current champions Linotype CHN 2-1 away. Jack Lamb-Wilson broke from midfield and piled the pressure on Linotype right back Joe Campbell, the defender toe poked the ball back to keeper Aaron Tyrer who missed the ball with his attempted clearance and could only stand and watch as it rolled across the line.

Dan Buehler doubled Congleton’s lead in the second half when a Richie Booth free kick was flicked into his path by Tom Jackson. Buehler kept his cool to dink the ball over Tyrer for 2-0. Kieran Herbert scored a consolation goal for the home side late into injury time but the points belonged to Congleton.

Their second win came at Malpas, where they finished 4-2 winners despite going 1-0 down from an Alex Hughes goal. Dan Buehler followed up a blocked shot by Carl McCurrie to draw Congleton level before the break. Tom Jackson made it 2-1 in the 62nd minute when he again followed up a McCurrie shot, only for Andy Morris to equalise for Malpas fifteen minutes later.

With five minutes remaining, Congleton were in the lead again as Oakes chested the ball down for Jackson to drive home from the edge of the box. In the 89th minute Richie Booth ran the ball to the corner flag to run the clock down, surrounded by defenders he managed to dance through them all before driving the ball into the far corner from the tightest of angles for 4-2.

Rudheath Social started their week with an impressive 1-0 win over current leaders Knutsford. Jack Wooley scored the only goal of the game in the 5th minute to complete a famous win for Rudheath.

Goals from Arian Kalantari and Ste Kiby helped Poynton beat Rylands 2-0 at home, while Greenalls PSO beat Denton Town 3-1 through a Lee Vaughan hat trick. Denton’s goal was scored by Vinnie Braine.

Garswood United started the week with a 2-1 win at Eagle Sports as Danny Bell and Jonathon Parkinson hit home, before sharing the points in a 2-2 draw at home against Rudheath Social. Steve Boothman and Chris Francis were on the scoresheet for Garswood, while Rob Simpson and Bradley Taberner scored for Rudheath.

Sandbach United moved up to fifth spot after beating Eagle Sports 4-1 at home. The sides went in level at the break but a second half hat trick from Josh Lane, added to a chip from Jeremy Pacome to see Sandbach finish victorious.

JA Walton Challenge Cup

League One

Altrincham Reserves continue to battle for the top spot as they finished 6-2 winners at Egerton. Joel Swift and Max Pouncey both scored twice, along with goals from Boris Melingui and Josef Faux. Andrew Brown and Ben Burrows found the net for Egerton. The win leaves them level on points with leaders Billinge with one game remaining, while Billinge have finished their league fixtures. Altrincham require at least one point to guarantee promotion as Wythenshawe Town sit a point behind them with two games left to play. If both Altrincham and Wythenshawe win their remaining games then both will be promoted, leaving Billinge in third. This is following Wythenshawe’s 3-1 win away at Golborne Sports in midweek.

Daten climbed to seventh place after beating Maine Road Reserves 2-1 away from home. Jack Hodgkiss and Alex Maudsley’s goals cancelled out Matthew Morgan’s strike to pull Daten further away from the drop zone. The result leaves things looking bleak for Maine Road as they need to get three points from their remaining fixture against Grappenhall Sports and rely on other results going their way to avoid relegation.
