Premier Division

Linotype Cheadle had yet another successful week in the Premier Division with two wins. The first came at the expense of Whaley Bridge where the league leaders took all three points with a 2-1 victory over their SK rivals. This win was followed by another victory, this time away at Eagle Sports with a win by 2 goals to nil.

Wythenshawe Town end the week just two points behind the leaders due to dropping points away at Crewe this weekend. This comes just days after Town beat Knutsford 2-0 at home thanks to goals from James Green and Gavin Salmon. This week gave us another strong showing from Denton Town, scoring six goals in two games.

Their midweek game saw the Tameside club defeat Styal 2-0, followed days later by an impressive 4-0 victory over Garswood United at Whittles Park. Whaley Bridge’s other game this week was at home to Knutsford, a 4-1 victory for the home side that leaves the two teams with just two points separating them in the league.
Congleton Vale earned themselves three points from this week’s fixtures with one win and one loss.

The win coming in midweek away at Rudheath Social (1-2) and the loss coming at the hands of Greenalls PSO at the weekend (1-4). Greenalls won both of their fixtures this week, the aforementioned win at Congleton Vale and their midweek victory at home to Altrincham Reserves. The National League North side’s reserves were unable to take any points from Greenalls as the home side won 2-0 thanks to two goals from Ben Slater.

However, this loss didn’t cause any significant decrease in from as Altrincham went on to beat Rudheath Social 6-0 at home to close the week of fixtures.
Crewe took all possible points from this week, played two, won two. Neither Malpas nor Wythenshawe could take points from the East Cheshire side this week. Malpas themselves had a rather disappointing week, not just because of the loss against Crewe but also due to their 1-3 loss at home to Styal.

Poynton had another successful week, picking up six points and scoring eight goals. Their first win came at home to Eagle Sports, the second was a 6-1 thrashing away at Rylands. Rylands did manage to pick up a win this week however, against fellow strugglers Garswood United, with goals coming from Matthew Ball and James Daniels in the 2-0 victory.

League One

We close this week of League One action with two teams tied at the top of the table on points. Billinge and Mersey Valley are both on 16 points after 7 games. Only goal difference separates the sides as Billinge are just ahead in league table placing. However, it was Billinge that dropped points this week with an entertaining 3-3 draw at Halebank. Mersey Valley continued their fine vein of form with a 3-2 victory at home to AFC Macclesfield to put them joint-top with Billinge.

Lostock Gralam could have also been level on points with the leaders had it not been for their goalless draw with Fc St Helens at the weekend.
Pilkington opened the week’s fixtures with an exceptional performance at home to Golborne Sports, by half-time the home side were 6 goals up, four of which came from the league’s top scorer, Matthew Taylor. No goals came in the second half which left the score at 6-0 when full-time came around. Grappenhall and Cheadle Town Reserves both had very disappointing weeks. Grappenhall fell victim to a 2-1 loss to West Didsbury and Chorlton which was then followed by a 4-3 loss at the weekend to Golborne Sports. Cheadle found themselves on the receiving end of two losses to Halebank (2-1) and Lostock Gralam (2-4).

Egerton defeated Daten 3-1 to free themselves from the bottom three, followed nicely by a draw at midtable side, Warrington Town Reserves. Middlewich Town failed to improve on past results as they only came away with 1 point this week, a 2-2 draw against bottom side, Tarporley Victoria. Their other game came in the form of a 2-1 loss to AFC Macclesfield. FC St Helens and Warrington shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 tie which saw Warrington’s Conor Speed get himself a brace.

Daten lost 2-0 to West Didsbury & Chorlton Reserves thanks to goals from Bates and Tootle. Pilkington continued their strong form this weekend with a 3-2 victory of bottom-of-the-table side, Tarporley Victoria.

League Two

There weren’t many games in League Two this week, a fact highlighted by there only being one game that was played in midweek. That was an high-scoring one however as Ford Motors beat Winstanley Warriors through goals from Tom Beech X2, Gary Robinson X2 and Jack Stead, Daryl Patton’s goal for the visitors was a mere consolation.

This win didn’t transfer to the weekend however as Motors found themselves 3-1 down at home to Unicorn Athletic. Barnton Reserves and Windle Labour played out a 5 goal thriller, with the away side coming out on top with a 3-2 win to maintain their position at the top of the table.
Yet another entertaining game took place at Broadheath Central as they welcomed the visit of Cuddington. What followed was a 3-3 draw that was delightful to watch for all spectators.

Moore United defeated Maine Road Reserves 2-1 at home to move up to tenth in the league.

Orford FC gave an impressive display against third-placed Deva Christleton in their 3-1 win. The league’s highest-scoring game this week came at Sandbach Reserves as the home side beat AFC Denton 5-2 through a hat-trick from James Bettley and a brace from Lewis Barker.
