Eagle start to climb...

Premier Division.

With both Whaley Bridge and Wythenshawe out of action due to cup games, it was Altrincham Reserves’ chance to make the most of it and catch the top two. Unfortunately for the Robins, they dropped points away at Rylands. It was an entertaining game, with glimpses of excellence from both sides.

It was Altrincham who picked up the first goal after 34 minutes, Rylands pulled level midway through the second half to come out with a 1-1 draw. The result leaves Altrincham two points off local rivals, Wythenshawe.

Crewe and Knutsford both leapfrog Linotype Cheadle Heath Nomads; Crewe beat Garswood United 1-0 at home and Knutsford came back from two down to draw 2-2 away at Congleton Vale. The league’s top five is as follows: Whaley Bridge, Wythenshawe, Altrincham, Knutsford and Crewe.

Eagle Sports move off the bottom with their impressive 4-2 victory over Greenalls PSO. The home side’s goals came via Owen Ellis, Lee Boardman, Chris Quirk and Danny Nixon. Rudheath Social also came away with a win this week as they won 0-1 away at Styal.

League One

Pilkington were the standouts in League One this week as they were dominant in their 1-7 victory over Tarporley Victoria. Grappenhall continue their poor form with a 0-1 loss at home to Billinge with the decisive goal coming through substitute Tim O’Connor.

FC St Helens came back from being two goals down to Middlewich to draw 2-2 at home. The Witches went 2 ahead through a brace from Chris Lunn, but it was short-lived however as two Lee Deakin goals pulled it back for the home side.

The final game this week saw a goalless draw between Daten and West Didsbury & Chorlton Reserves, which saw a disappointing performance from the Manchester locals.

League Two

There was another 7-1 thrashing in League Two, as Ford Motors beat Sandbach Utd Reserves. Man of the Match was Gary Robinson, who scored an impressive four goals. The other goals came via Michael Donohue and a Paul Jones brace.

Moore United fell victim to a 1-2 loss to Cuddington with the majority of the action happening in the second half. Cuddington went 2-0 up with goals from captain Nathan Harwood and Jack Glimond (whose goal was set up by the aforementioned Harwood). Moore pulled one back through a rebounded penalty, but it wasn’t enough to come away with any points.

Unicorn Athletic and Winstanely Warriors both won their home ties against Maine Road Reserves and Orford respectively. The latter moving the home side to within two points of their opponents.
