League One

Wythenshawe Town were crowned champions of league one following two successive victories this week. They started with a 6-0 win at home against Grappenhall Sports as James Green scored four goals to add to his already impressive tally for the season. Omar Thompson and Antonio Din Chin also made the score sheet. This was followed up with a 5-1 win away at Tarporley Victoria that saw Wythenshawe clinch the title by two points.

Altrincham Reserves finished as league runners up as they beat Middlewich Town 4-0 at home through goals from Harry Cain, Sam Heathcote, Connor Sutton and Boris Melingui. This is an outstanding achievement from both clubs who have completed successive promotions from league two to one and then to the premier division.

Golborne Sports will finish their season in fifth place following a 1-0 win at home against Grappenhall Sports that saw Gary Shannon score the only goal.

JA Walton Challenge Cup

Golborne Sports booked their place in the final of the cup with a 4-2 home win over Halebank. Dan Bradshaw, Kenny Cooper, Josh Taffe and Alex Dunne cancelled out goals from Conor Speed and Dan Whalley to reach the final, that will be played at the end of May.

League Two

Warrington Town Reserves finished their season on a high as they beat Cheadle Town Reserves 2-1 away in a feisty game that saw Warrington reduced to nine men. Rhys Bowers scored both goals for Warrington, while Josh Stevenson scored for Cheadle.

Morgan Deardon gave FC St Helens a 1-0 lead at half time when they travelled to Moore United but Sean Willott scored in the 70th minute to earn Moore a 1-1 draw. The point moves St Helens up to third, six points behind Warrington Town but with four games left to play, meaning runners up is a possibility.

Reserve League One

Garswood United started the week with a seven goal thriller at Sandbach United that saw them finish 4-3 winners and followed it up with a 2-2 draw at home against current league leaders Poynton.

Poynton had beaten Gamesley 2-0 earlier in the week through goals from Lee Broome and Rick Tindall. They now sit two points clear at the top but Whaley Bridge have three games in hand. Gamesley’s tough week continued as they were beaten 6-1 at home against Daten on Saturday.

Thursday night saw Linotype CHN beat local rivals Styal 7-3 at home through four goals from Jordan Thompson. Jack Longworth also hit home as did the Grandison brothers Leon and Wayne. Styal’s goals were scored by Matt Clarke (2) and Troy Hayder.

Styal bounced back well from the defeat and went on to beat Grappenhall Sports 4-0 at home, moving up to ninth, four points clear of the drop zone. Styal started strongly putting Grappenhall on the back foot from the off, it wasn't long before their keeper was called into action first against Pryce then West. Chance after chance went begging for Styal but finally the deadlock was broken when persistence by Pryce cut the ball back for Grindle to slot home from three feet out.

The second half continued in the same vein with Styal dominating and after another mazy run, Matt West was fouled in the box and Clarke hit home the resulting spot kick.
West made it 3-0 mid way through the half before Sam Cawthra slotted home late on for 4-0.

Knutsford A took a 2-0 lead after 14 minutes as they travelled to Billinge. Jacob Millett opened the scoring after four minutes when he got on the end of a Dominic Baker long throw to head home from close range. The second goal was also provided by Baker’s throw, this time knocked in by Will Edwards.

After taking a while to wake up, Billinge sprung into action as Ryan Platt scored twice in two minutes to bring the scores level before Kyle Lord gave them the lead in the 42nd minute following good build up play from Geoff Parr.

The second half saw Lord score again in the 67th minute before defender Elliott Bradshaw scored a great individual goal after running from his own half to send the ball crashing into the bottom left corner. Lord completed his hat trick in the 88th minute to see Billinge finish 6-2 winners.

Sandbach United beat Whaley Bridge 2-1 away in their quarter-final and they will play Knutsford A on Wednesday to determine who will meet Rylands in the final.

Reserve League Two

Wythenshawe followed that up with a 1-1 draw at home against Mersey Valley Development Squad on Saturday.
