Greenalls PSO recognise a club hero!

On Saturday 24th October Ted Stubbs was presented with an award from the FA to recognise his achievement of 50 years service to the game.

Ted started playing for Padgate St Oswald as a 16 year old and has been involved with the club ever since.

Below is the speech given by Greenalls PSO chairman Ken McGill in recognition of Ted's achievement.

We have gathered tonight to pay our respects to a very special person; a person who has touched and enriched the lives of all who have come into contact with him.

I think it was some time last year when we got a mail shot from the FA asking if we had anyone we would like to nominate for a Life Time award. We immediately put Ted’s name forward and were delighted when the FA agreed to award Ted this much deserved accolade.

Ted first played for Padgate St. Oswalds, “Ossies”, when he was 16 so he has been associated with the Club in many roles for 60 years.

“Ossies” merged with Greenalls to form GPSO in 2003 and although I knew of Ted and indeed played against him a few times when I played for Orford Rovers as a lad, we only got to know him properly from 2003.

I have been associated with open age football for nearly 50 years and have met, played for, and under, some top class blokes, but, without a doubt the best guy I have ever had the honour of working with is Ted. He has an unassuming manner, is modest to the enth degree and unflappable. He has the rare gift of knowing what is to be done and doing it..... no fuss, no fanfare,no problem..... he just gets on and does it. Some people tell you what they’re going to do and don’t do it; some people tell you what they’re going to do and do it..... Ted just does it.

It’s safe to say without Ted the name of Padgate St. Oswalds and their history would be lost.

It is testament to him that guys from the full span of his 60 years have turned up tonight to pay homage to the man.
What a guy.... what a diamond, he’s a legend.
They broke the mould when they made EDWARD ARNOLD STUBBS.

Many thanks to Jimmy Bush & Ian Worley for all the work they put into making today’s presentation happen.
Finally we can’t let this special event pass without mentioning the person who has supported Ted for the past 50 years and what an understanding woman she is ...... his wife Rena.
