Wythenshawe Town secure partnership with Fleetwood Town

Fleetwood Town Football Club are delighted to announce another important partnership, this time with Wythenshawe Town Football Club.

Wythenshawe, who ply their trade in the Hallmark Security Cheshire Football League, have ambitions of reaching the North West Counties, a level the Cod Army where playing at just over ten years ago.

The two clubs have had a close relationship for the past six years, but this new partnership will allow both parties to grow together and ultimately help uncover emerging footballing talent.

Wythenshawe Town chairman Kenny Hope said: “It is brilliant for both clubs. We can now promote this partnership and it will hopefully attract players to join Wythenshawe Town.

“We have played at Highbury Stadium for the past six years during the summer months. Andy Pilley has opened the whole facility up for ourselves and we appreciate his generosity.

“This partnership will allow Wythenshawe to grow alongside Fleetwood Town. Fleetwood’s staff will be able to share ideas and methods with our coaches to help player development.

“Fleetwood’s CEO Steve Curwood will be able to offer support and advice as we bid to enter the North West Counties.

“Fleetwood Town have been there and done it. We could have linked up with a team like Manchester United but we would have not learnt a great deal.

“Fleetwood care about the community clubs. The relationship between the two clubs will continue to grow as time goes on. We are working together as two clubs in two completely different worlds.”

The agreement with Wythenshawe is the start of a number of partnerships to come for Fleetwood Town, with clubs locally, nationally and internationally.

Lee Bennett, first team manager at Wythenshawe, backed up his chairman’s thoughts on the partnership being beneficial to both parties.

“It will allow Wythenshawe to attract numerous players to join,” Bennett told Fleetwood Town’s club website. “Both clubs have come from similar roots, I am sure we have had offers from other football clubs but this is the right move for Wythenshawe Town.

Fleetwood Town’s CEO Steve Curwood added to this by saying: “Manchester is a hot bed of young football talent. There are many players who have experienced the disappointment of rejection from academy football in the region.

“Our eyes and ears can’t be everywhere so to have a club like Wythenshawe, with all of their coaches helping identify any overlooked talent, is only a positive for both parties."
