Malpas and Congleton get off to a dream start in the Prem

Our Premier League season kicked off with some exciting results last night.

Reigning champions Linotype CHN suffered a 4-1 defeat away at last season’s winners Knutsford.

Richard Smart put Knutsford ahead after 15 minutes, only for Jordan Goodeve to put Linotype back on level terms before the break.

Mike Cartner restored Knutsford’s leave shortly after the restart which was followed up by two goals in ten minutes from Liam Myers to secure the first three points of the season.

Denton Town also got off to a bright start as they finished 5-2 winners away at Gamesley. Phil Cooper, Alan Hamlet, Mark Turner, Adam Kay and Dave McDonald all hit home to get Denton off to a good start.

Newly promoted Malpas celebrated success with a 2-1 win at Sandbach United. Lee Parry scored twice for the Shropshire side, while Josh Lane scored for Sandbach.

Whaley Bridge finished 1-0 winners in a tight battle with local rivals Poynton as Ray Dwolitka scored the only goal and Greenalls PSO claimed the bragging rights as they won 1-0 at home against local rivals Eagle Sports with Lee Vaughan scoring in the first half.

New look Rylands beat Garswood United 2-1 with a last gasp winner to get their season off to a winning start. Both sides struggled to gain any real foot hold in the match during the first half but Garswood had the only chance of note but Rylands’ keeper, Gareth Powell stood strong when challenged one-on-one and saved comfortably.

Rylands flew out of the traps in the second half and it took only two minutes before they took the lead through Kris Bell, who capitalised on a defensive mix-up from Calum Wilson's long ball. Bell finished well past the on-rushing goalkeeper.

The goal seemed to settle Rylands down and they began to take control of the game, keeping the ball well and moving Garswood around, but without creating many opportunities on goal.

In the 63rd minute Powell was called in to action again in the Rylands goal, after the home side made good use of a quick free kick, saving well to his left. Shortly after, Garswood were back on level terms after the winger was allowed to run unchallenged from deep to the byline, before crossing low where McIntyre was primed to slot home.
Neither side seemed happy to settle for a draw, and after 80 minutes the game began to open up, Kris Bell's bending free-kick hit the crossbar for Rylands, before Chris Brown headed what looked a certain goal off the line for the hosts in the 85th minute.

Both sides continued to look dangerous going forward, but neither had the clinical touch that could seal the game and the tie looked destined for a draw. However in the 89th minute, Rylands produced a counter attacking move after Beckett won the ball deep, he carried forward and found McCarthy whose quick feet took him past the midfielder, passing to Odilon. 'Odi' turned and played in debutant Tom Swann. Swann cut inside from the left, going past the home full back and firing low in to the bottom corner to steal the three points. To their credit, Garswood found the time to create more drama, forcing a late corner. The 'keeper came up but Gareth Powell was on hand to stretch to his right and knock the bouncing ball away from the on-rushing striker.

Newly promoted Congleton Vale seemed to settle well into Premier League life as they defeated Crewe 3-1 at home. Matt Ben-Accom opened the scoring after 27 minutes to give Congleton a half time lead and James Spencer came off the bench to score a second half brace in five minutes. Crewe’s goal was scored by Chris Jackson.

A Craig Millington hat trick got Rudheath Social off to a flying start as they beat Styal 4-2 at home. Sam Didsbury added a fourth goal in the 77th minute to secure victory for the Northwich side.
