Billinge stop the Wythenshawe juggernaut in its tracks!

JB Parker Cup

Current holders Gamesley FC went crashing out of the JB Parker Cup at the first round as they lost 5-1 away at Rylands after failing to recover from a 2-0 deficit at half time. Connor Anderson, Haydn Fraser, Tom Swann and Tom Gibson (2) all scored to put Rylands through to the quarter final.

A 7th minute striker from Liam Myers saw Knutsford beat Congleton Vale 1-0, while Carl Walker and Jordan McCann scored for Denton Town as they beat Garswood United 2-1 at home.

Goals from Ged McAllister and Owen Ellis took Eagle Sports to extra time as they drew 2-2 with Poynton after leading 2-1 at half time but Poynton secured their place in the next round as they won 5-4 on penalties.

Whaley Bridge also progress after a 2-0 win away at Malpas, while Sandbach United booked their place in the quarter final after beating Rudheath Social 3-1 at home.

Last season’s finalists Linotype CHN looked strong as they beat local rivals Styal 4-0 through goals from Kayle Power, Joe Campbell and Kieran Herbert (2), while Greenalls PSO beat Crewe 4-3 on penalties after goals from Gareth Johns (Greenalls) and Mike Evans (Crewe) saw the sides finish at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

League One

Billinge ended Wythenshawe Town’s run of 25 league wins as they won 4-1 away. Billinge had the home team under pressure from the start closing down their midfield and not allowing the Wythenshawe defence to play the ball out. Billinge took the lead after 12 minutes when Elliott Bradshaw’s free kick was met by Jon Redmond who soared above the Wythenshawe defence to head home.

They doubled their lead on the 20 minute mark when Sam Denton finished well following some good build up play from Anderson, Wolhuter and Fairhurst. At the other end, Wythenshawe were awarded two free kicks on the edge of the box but were not able to beat Jamie Scott in the Billinge goal.

Wythenshawe broke through in the 38th minute when Louis Brown skipped past the Billinge defence unchallenged before slotting home to make it 2-1 but Billinge soon recovered their two goal lead when another Bradshaw free kick was driven low into Redmond in the box who passed the ball to an unmarked Denton to slot home for his second of the game.

Shortly after the break, Wythenshawe were reduced to ten men as they had a striker sent off for violent conduct and before they could regroup, Chris Fairhurst had skipped through their defence to score Billinge’s fourth of the game.

The 70th minute saw Billinge reduced to ten as their full back was dismissed for a dangerous challenge.

The defeat sees Wythenshawe slip into third place as they were leap-frogged by their opponents who sit just above on goal difference.

Altrincham Reserves remain at the top of League One after their 5-3 win at home against Golborne Sports, while Tarporley Victoria shared the points with Pilkington following their 1-1 draw.

Middlewich Town cruised to a 7-0 victory at home against Grappenhall Sports in a one sided affair at Seddon Street. Middlewich controlled the game in the early stages enjoying plenty of possession so it was no surprise when they took the lead on 17 minutes. A Sam O’Sullivan corner was flicked on at the near post by Sam Jackson for Dan Holdsworth to nod home at the back post for 1-0. Minutes later Middlewich were denied a penalty when Holdsworth was played through into the box and bundled over and then missed a big chance when Dean blazed over from close range after a good move from left to right involving Evans, Matty Cann and Holdsworth.

Middlewich went 2-0 up when Sam O’Sullivan confidently despatched from the penalty spot after Holdsworth was tripped from Mike Whitehead's clever run and through ball. At the other end, Middlewich keeper Charles Masters was called into action for the first time after pushing away Jay Norman’s dipping 25 yard volley.

Middlewich's Matty Cann was unlucky when he cut in from the left on to his right foot and drove a powerful shot just wide before Holdsworth claimed his second of the match on 36 minutes when he latched on to a ball down the left from Alex Burns before beating a defender and stabbing the ball over the Grappenhall keeper to make it 3-0.

There was still enough time left of the first half for Sam O’Sullivan to narrowly put a free kick wide of the post and Grappenhall keeper Brett Bala’C to save smartly from Deans powerful strike on the edge of the box.

Grappenhall started the second half the brighter of the two teams and hit the post on 49 minutes when the ball was crossed in from the right and the left winger hammered a shot against the woodwork. Middlewich scored again a minute later though when Rebbeck played a ball over the top to Holdsworth whose cross shot was saved by Bala’C straight back to him to tee up James Dean to roll the ball into the far corner from 8 yards.

Masters again saved smartly from a shot from distance but it was only ever Middlewich who really looked like scoring again. Evans made it five when sub Callum Priestley played him in down the left before cutting inside on to his right to smash home an unstoppable strike from the edge of the box. Grappenhall were visibly tiring now and Middlewich's ability to make good substitutions provided no respite. Priestley made it six on 83 with a cool finish from close range after Dean had blocked a Grappenhall clearance that rebounded in to his path to put him clean through.

Evans was then unlucky when his lob from 30 yards over the stranded Bala’C dropped marginally the wrong side of the post. He got his reward though in injury time when Priestley beat his marker down the right and put a low ball in to the box for Evans and although the defender managed to block his initial effort he coolly finished the rebound from close range to bag his tenth goal of the season.

League Two

Halebank returned to league action with an impressive 8-1 win over fellow newcomers Litherland Remyca Reserves in a game that saw Dan Whalley and Matt Perry both grab hat tricks, along with goals from Andrew Cashmore and Kevin Dunning.

Lostock Gralam suffered their first league defeat of the season as they lost 4-3 at home against Warrington Town Reserves. The win moves Warrington up to fifth with thirteen points from five games, while Lostock remain a point clear at the top, having played two games more than second place AFC Macclesfield.

AFC Macclesfield managed to reduce the gap at the top as they won 2-1 away at local rivals Cheadle Town Reserves. On a grey afternoon, the match began brightly for Macclesfield, with talismanic striker Greg Mathers continuing his rich vein of goal scoring form with a left footed effort that thundered into the bottom corner whilst the Cheadle keeper stood static.

The away side doubled their lead when Jordan Hitchen dispatched a trademark free kick into the bottom corner of the goal. Despite Macclesfield’s continued domination for the remainder of the half, they were unable to extend their lead and a warning shot was fired to Macclesfield just before the half time whistle when, the Cheadle striker’s free header came back from the inside of the Macclesfield post before being hacked clear.

Cheadle halved the deficit in the second half when a free kick from the wing found its way into the bottom of the goal from the boot of Harrison Pegler.

The final moments of the game became scrappy; Macclesfield winger Jack Banister was clipped as he rounded the keeper and was awarded a penalty. Mathers stepped up to take the spot kick, but his left footed effort cannoned off the inside of the post.

Mersey Valley sit in third place following a 2-1 win at home against West Didsbury & Chorlton Reserves, while Moore United got their first win of the season as they beat Cuddington 2-1 away thanks to goals from Sean Willott and Dec Wakefield.

Reserve League One

Whaley Bridge suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost 2-1 away at Greenalls PSO as Matthew Rigby and Paul Molloy hit home for the Warrington side.

Knutsford A proved to be unstoppable as they stormed to a 9-0 win away at Gamesley in a game that saw seven different scorers. Brad Williams bagged a hat trick, while Dom Baker, James Davies, Brad West, Joel Wilbrahim, Gareth Williams and Jacob Millett all hit home to put Knutsford in third, eight points behind leaders Whaley Bridge.

Styal secured their first win of the season as they won 3-2 away at Eagle Sports. Jack Booth, Jordan Eccleston and Joe Mellor all scored for Styal while Jackson Heywood and Ross Morrison found the net for Eagle.

Daniel Hague, Jordan Corcoran and Jack Leyland (2) scored for Billinge as they beat Daten 4-0 at home, while Kenneth Mather scored for Sandbach United in their 1-1 draw at Garswood United.

Mark Faulkner and Andy Simpson both scored hat tricks in Poynton’s 7-1 win at Grappenhall Sports with a further goal coming from Josh Stafford. Anthony Dalton scored the only goal for Grappenhall.

Reserve Division Challenge Cup

Middlewich Town moved up to second in group D after a difficult 5-4 win away at Linotype CHN. There were goals galore as Simon Robinson (2) Leon Robinson, Tom Ward and Sam Stockley scored for Middlewich and Matty Oldfield, Jordan Thomson (2) and Leon Grandison scored for Linotype who continue to look for their first win of the group stage.

Reserve League Two

There were another nine goals as Moore United finished 5-4 winners at home against Cuddington. Moore had the first chance of the game after 12 minutes when Phil Gahgan’s cross from the left found Ryan Taylor in the box who headed the ball goal bound, but the Cuddington keeper got down well to save it.

It was Cuddington who took the lead after 21 minutes when a mistake at the back allowed the away team striker time to compose himself before striking into the net for 1-0 but five minutes later Moore were back on level terms when Matt Odie’s corner found Gahgan who bundled the ball acoss the line.

The 40th minute saw Cuddington take the lead again but it lasted less than a minute as Liam Edwards played a ball into the run of Tom Smith who beat his defender and forced a save off the keeper, before slotting home the rebound to make it 2-2 at the break.

Smith was unlucky not to put Moore in front shortly after the restart but his effort went just wide of the post and two minutes later Cuddington were gifted the lead again when Robinson turned the ball into his own net as he attempted to clear from a corner.

Cuddington repaid the favour five minutes later when their defender chested the ball back to the keeper who had already committed, sending it flying over his head into the net for 3-3.

Moore took the lead midway through the second half when Farnadi hit home from the penalty spot after being fouled in the box as he sent the keeper the wrong way. Farnaid got his second as he chipped the Cuddington keeper from 25 yards to make it 5-3 but Cuddington were not done and made it 5-4 in injury time when they capitalised on another defensive mistake.

Rylands went top of the table on goal difference after beating Golborne Sports 5-1 away. Nick Jordan, Andy Williams, Luke McCoy, Ryan Matthews and Jack Lawrence all hit home to see Rylands over take Denton Town who also have 15 points but have played a game more.
