Press Report 5/3/16

Snow ruins another weekend of football!

The bad weather hit us hard again this week, with only two games surviving the snow and rain!

JB Parker Cup - Quarter Final

Rylands came from behind to beat Denton Town 3-2 and book their place in the semi final next week against Whaley Bridge.

Marti Bentley opened the scoring in the 2nd minute when he capitalised on confusion in the Rylands defence and tapped the ball home from close range to put Denton ahead.

Rylands drew level in the 48th minute when Jimmy Daniels headed the ball home at the back post from Mike Southern's corner. Dan Sisson made it 2-1 for the home side on the hour mark as he chipped Gavin Affleck in the Denton goal from 40 yards.

Ten minutes later and Rylands extended their lead as Kris Bell finished well after rounding the keeper for 3-1, but Denton battled on and were rewarded in the 85th minute when Jordan McCann finished well into the bottom corner as he was on the turn. That set up a frantic close to the game but Rylands held on for the win.

JA Walton Challenge Cup

Wythenshawe Town made it four cup wins in four in group A as they won 7-1 at home against Unicorn Athletic. The win confirms their place in the knock out stages of the competition.

Niall Rhodes opened the scoring following a neat one two on the edge of the box and added his second for Wythenshawe before the break. Soon after the restart Rhodes made it 3-0 before Colin Murray got in on the act with their fourth.

Omar Thompson then scored a brilliant individual goal when he took the ball past three players, before placing it perfectly in the net with the outside of his right foot. James Green made it 6-0 towards the end of the half and Unicorn scored a late consolation goal through James Phillips before Green added his second to see the game finish 7-1.
